Nairobi
Nairobi, a Maasai name; Enkare Nairobi, which translates to “cool waters”, a reference to the Nairobi River which flows through the city. Kenya’s capital city has risen in a single century from an uninhabited swampland to a thriving modern capital. Modern Nairobi is still the safari capital of the Africa, but the modern world has quickly caught up with the city. In recent years, Nairobi has developed a thriving startup scene and made a name for itself as a tech hub – so much so that it’s been dubbed the Silicon Savannah, Nairobi is one of Africa’s largest, and most interesting cities.

This is not a modern capital separated from the great wilderness that surrounds it. Just outside the city is Nairobi National Park, 113 sq. kms of plains, cliffs and forest. The park is home to large herds of zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe and more. Rhino, Cheetah, and a large number of Lions are all found here.

DAY 1 : Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Giraffe Center, Karen Blixen, Oloolua Forest
We start the day with a visit to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, an animal conservation site that’s just outside Nairobi National Park. The Daphne Sheldrick orphanage is best known for its elephant rescue project. Learn about on-site conservation efforts, Elephant calves, orphaned by poaching are brought here from all over the country. The baby elephants are specially nursed by dedicated staff, as they are highly dependent on milk. Next stop will be the Giraffe Centre, feed and steal a kiss from the savanna giants and learn much more about our country’s wildlife and environment. We shall then head to the Karen Blixen Museum which once the entre piece of a farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills owned by Danish Author Karen and her Swedish Husband, Baron Bror von Blixen Fincke. The farm house gained international fame with the release of the movie ‘Out of Africa’ an Oscar winning film based on Karen’s an autobiography by the same title. After lunch we shall top it all of with a relaxing walk in the Oloolua 5km nature trail, the Forest is home to the Institute of primate research (IPR) this is truly an escape from the hustle and bustle of the Big city.

DAY 2 : Day Trip
This day will be open to what you would like to do either a Day hike or bike ride, here are a few signature destinations of never ending options around Nairobi;

  • Tigoni this where fresh air is mixed with the scent of tea and coffee, through a sea of greenery, The tour will be an off-road tour with a mix of connecting tarmac roads. Given the seemingly endless trails We will go through local roads, tea & coffee plantations, farmland, and lots of single track. Give yourself a pat on the back when you crest the top of one of Tigoni’s many hills.
  • Ngong Hills 25km from Nairobi city the hills are peaked in a ridge along the Great Rift Valley. The forest covers an area of 3077.6ha, the windy hill is home to the sustainable wind power station that was established in 2013. Once you arrive, you are greeted by massive wind turbines. The vegetation there is mainly exotic and indigenous trees such as pine and acacia, respectively. The forest is a habitat to a variety of animals such as buffaloes, hyenas, dik-diks, and porcupines. Lovely for a trek or ride.
  • Saikeri in the valleys of Ngong hill, Saikeri offers a glimpse onto the savannas of Kenya, We will start with a decent down Ngong hill from the resort towards the direction of Susuwa, hopefully on the way will stand a chance of seeing Giraffes and different grazers. Most ot the ride will be deep in Maasai land, feel the authenticity and the connection to nature.
  • Nachu Caves, A 30 km hike across both indigenous and exotic species of trees, different types of shrubs and thickets will end you at the Nachu caves, feel the energy once you get into the caves, catch your breath as you catch a glimpse of the Ngong hills and Suswa and the plain landscape of Lusigetti., the view is amazing. Enjoy the simple pleasures of life that will warm your heart.

DAY 3 : The Forest Adventure Park
We arrive to a great view of the Abedares forest from the restaurant Terrace, right after breakfast we buckle up and zip way and glide above the forest canopy on a series, the ziplines are a series of six ziplines that traverse the valley, spanning over 2km, with trekking sections in-between. We shall then come back to the center and begin our bike ride on forest trails through the diverse landscapes through open meadows and winding tracks across hills and streams offering sweeping corners and exciting jumps. After lunch we shall battle it out on the paintball field; Pick your team, get kitted out and start dodging exploding paint balls in a woodland setting, paintball is one of the most exhilarating activities at The Forest.

DAY 4 : Swara Acacia Lodge
Swara Acacia Lodge is your most convenient African escape just 36 km from Nairobi. They are located on the sprawling Swara Plains and have unbridled access to the 20,000 acres of wildlife sanctuary surrounding us.take your journey off the beaten path and explore the sanctuary via bike rides and hikes or hike, Swara is truly Nairobi’s gateway to Kenya’s great outdoors.

DAY 5 : Nairobi – National Park and City tour
We rise early for a game drive in the Nairobi National Park, it is unique by being the only protected area in the world with a variety of animals and birds just a stone throw away from the capital city. The park is home to the world’s densest concentration of black rhinos (more than 50), The Park has acquired the nickname ‘Kifaru Ark’, a testament to its success as a rhinoceros (Kifaru in Kiswahili) sanctuary. Nairobi NP has a decent variety of wildlife. Aside from elephants, all of the Big Five are present. In July and August, a mini migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle crosses into the park from the surrounding areas.

City tour; After the game drive we shall get into the City to Sample the vitality of Nairobi by taking a journey back in past of Kenyan history, we shall visit the National museum, The Museum offers a one stop shop to learn of Kenya’s rich heritage, we shall then visit The Kenya National Archives located in the heart of the Nairobi central business district, it holds 40,000 volumes of public records and archives, part of the national documentary heritage.

Matatu ride back home – If you are up for the adventure Join a Matatu ride, the matatu minibuses is the local privately owned means of public transport, known for blaring out loud music, they have become increasingly extravagant in their design. Matatus have evolved from being a mere mode of transport to a way of life.
